Sri Lanka’s cricket manager Asanka Gurusinha today rued the dropped catch of Shikhar Dhawan, saying the team paid a heavy price as India finished day one of the first Test at 399 for three.Dhawan was on 31 at the time when his catch was dropped and the opener went on to score 190 off 168 deliveries.”It is hard to appreciate bowlers’ effort after you concede 400 runs in a day. India are a very strong side. We dropped a catch of Dhawan and then paid a price. Not sure what would have happened had that catch been taken,” said the manager at the press conference.Sri Lanka suffered a double blow as Asela Gunaratne sustained a broken thumb on his left hand while attempting a catch of Dhawan off the bowling of Lahiru Kumara. He has been subsequently ruled out of the remainder of the Test series and the hosts will be playing this game with just 10 players.”It was a double blow. We dropped the catch and lost a player,” said Gurusinha.”It’s sad. He will undergo a surgery in a short while.”Most probably he will be out for a minimum of four weeks. We will know in the next 48 hours about the time frame. He has fractured his thumb in three places. As soon as we saw the x- rays we knew it was very serious and we rushed him to Colombo,” the manager added. The Lankan bowling attack came a cropper as it simply failed to contain the Indian batsmen, particularly Dhawan who punished them with 31 fours and scored at a rate in excess of 100. He put on 253 runs with Cheteshwar Pujara, who also scored a century, remaining unbeaten at stumps on 144.advertisement”We know Dhawan wasn’t in the initial squad but then he came back into the side and showed the selectors what he is capable of. It was a good track for him and we also ended up bowling to his strength, and he capitalised on that,” said Gurusinha.”But we have to be honest that we didn’t bowl well. Nuwan Pradeep was the only outstanding bowler I thought. It’s a really good batting wicket. I heard Virat (Kohli) talking that it is a good batting wicket. We bowled on both sides of the wicket as well. Dhawan just took over the game. His 190-run knock was one reason we find ourselves in this situation.”However, Gurusinha expressed confidence that his batsmen could still turn the game around with a good show.”They will recall the manner in which Lanka beat India turning around a similarly dominant performance from the visitors on day one of the series back in 2015. You never know. This is Galle and after scoring 600 runs you can still lose a Test match.”Our batsmen have to just to go out and play good cricket. Let’s see what happens in the last two days. We need to first try and get India out tomorrow. We will probably bat somewhere tomorrow,” he said.

JBL Soundgear wearable speaker: $90 (save $160) Google Nest Hub: $59 (save $70) $210 at Best Buy Rylo Tags Angela Lang/CNET I thought this might be a mistake, but, no, the weirdly named HP Laptop 15t Value is indeed quite the value at this price. Specs include an Intel Core i7 processor, 12GB of RAM, a 256GB solid-state drive and a 15.6-inch display. However, I strongly recommend paying an extra $50 to upgrade that display to FHD (1,920×1,080), because you’re not likely to be happy with the native 1,366×768 resolution. Wait — no, I’m not. As much as I respect the original intent of the holiday (which became official back in 1894), to most of us, it’s just a bonus day off — one that’s blissfully tacked onto a weekend. So, yeah, stores; go ahead, run your sales. I’m listening. Christopher Barry is a candidate in the April 28 special election. (Photo/youtube.com)Ward 8 D.C. Council hopeful Marion Christopher Barry lived most of his life in the shadow of his famous father, the late Marion S. Barry Jr. However, as a candidate in the April 28 special election to serve out the remainder of his father’s term on the council, Barry makes it clear that he is his own man.“My father spent the last decade of his life preparing me to run for the Ward 8 seat on the council,” Barrysaid. “As he talked about the position, I would listen to him and get his input and perspective on a lot of things, but I do have my own views with substance on issues.”Barry grew up in eastern Washington with a father, who was the mayor of the District, and his mother, Effi Barry, a popular first lady. He candidly admits that he lived very well as the District’s “first son.”“We met all types of influential and famous people and we were invited to all types of high-level events,” Barry said. “We had the life like that until 1990 when everything flipped.”On Jan. 18, 1990 at the Vista Hotel, District Mayor Marion Barry was videotaped during a sting operation against him smoking crack with his mistress, and was arrested by the FBI. Marion S. Barry Jr. went to prison in 1991 for his role at the Vista Hotel and was released in April 1992.Barry said that when his father was no longer mayor, things changed. “It was true that our family had the trappings and the perks because my father was the mayor but it faded away when he was no longer in office,” he said. “It seemed like we had a glamorous lifestyle but we were never wealthy. We may have associated with influential people but at the end of the day we laid our head down in Southeast.”Barry, a graduate of Wilson Senior High School, attended Hampton University briefly before deciding to enter the job market. He worked odd jobs but ended up doing construction work.Barry said the construction work was physically and emotionally taxing. He also noticed that the people in the Hampton Roads area were different from Washingtonians. “The Black people seemed to have a slave mentality and when I was on a work site, it was not unusual for me or any Black person to be told ‘go unload that truck, boy’,” he said.Barry is the founder of Efficiency Contractors, named after his mother who died in 2007. Barry said that he focuses on hiring Ward 8 residents for jobs. “The people I hire to work for me want to change their lives and I want to help them,” he said. “I want to help people put their guns up and pick up tools. It really makes me feel good when young people say to me that they can’t wait until they turn 18 so they can work for me.”On the campaign trail, Barry talks about entrepreneurship, not big-box retailers, as the answer to the ward’s economic woes, and offering developers tax incentives to build affordable housing.Barry wants the city’s senior services apparatus to tailor to the needs of individuals, noting that a 55-year-old active resident doesn’t have the same needs as an ailing 80- or 90-year-old. In terms of young people, Barry wants the youth employment program his father made famous to go back to its original mission of job training and placement. “What you have now is young people doing busywork and not really learning how to get, keep and advance on a job,” he said. What Barry really wants to do is bring the residents of Ward 8 together. “There is a class divide in Ward 8,” he said. “There is a sense that professional Black people want low-income Blacks removed. That is not good because as the ward changes, those professional Blacks may be the low-income Blacks who may be pushed out.”The Rev. Anthony Motley is a longtime Ward 8 political activist and was a close political ally and friend of Marion S. Barry Jr. With all due respect to Barry, he is supporting Natalie Williams in the special election. “I have known Chris all of his life and he is a nice young man that has a lot of potential,” Motley said. He believes that Barry needs to grow as a person in order to be an effective representative of Ward 8 residents.Anthony Lorenzo Green, who serves as Barry’s advisory neighborhood commissioner, disagrees. “Christopher Barry is the right person for me and my neighbors on the city council,” Green said. “He represents the hope and the promise of the ward and he has the respect and the trust of ward residents. He is not trying to fill his father’s shoes but he wants to continue to fight for the things his father fought for.”

Kolkata: The state government will observe July 12 every year as “Save Water Day”, according to a tweet uploaded by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on social media on Saturday.A rally titled “Save Water Save Life” will be organised on July 12 at 3 pm from Jorasanko to Gandhi Statue in which Banerjee will also take part. The state government has urged the NGOs, clubs, various organisations and students to participate in the procession. In the tweet, Banerjee expressed concern over the sharp fall in the groundwater level and global warming. Also Read – Rs 13,000 crore investment to provide 2 lakh jobs: MamataShe tweeted: “Due to extreme depletion of groundwater and inadequate availability of surface water several states like Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Rajasthan and Gujarat are reeling under severe water scarcity. Finally water to drink has become a huge challenge in many places. In West Bengal a review was done and it was found that groundwater level was a point of concern in some blocks.” The state government is doing constant monitoring and three lakh water bodies have been dug under the flagship project “Jal Dharo, Jal Bharo”. Around 500 check dams have been constructed and 41,000 acres of land have been brought under irrigation in water scarce areas of Jangalmahal and saline areas of the Sunderbans under the “Jal Tirtha” programme. Also Read – Lightning kills 8, injures 16 in stateShe further mentioned: “The need of the hour is to conserve water and stop its wastage and misuse. Also finding ways to develop and adopt highly sustainable water use systems and policies.” It may be mentioned that Mayor Firhad Hakim has proposed to introduce rainwater harvesting in the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) area. He has urged people not to waste water. The KMC will install meters to find out the usage of water. Steps have been taken to stop wastage of water through leaks that have come up on the KMC water supply line. The KMC is planning to set up a separate zone to wash cars with unfiltered water. It may be mentioned that there used to be a pumping station to lift unfiltered water at Mallickghat off Burrabazar, which is almost defunct now. The unfiltered water was used to clean roads and for washing purposes. Every household had tanks to keep unfiltered water. In New Town, awareness campaigns to conserve water will be held on July 12. The New Town Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA) conserves 30 gallons of filtered water every day by recycling wastewater which is used to water roadside trees and gardens.
