QPR say thousands of local people have backed their plans to regenerate Old Oak.The club’s Malaysian owners, fronted by chairman Tony Fernandes, have long been keen to develop the area between Scrubs Lane and Willesden Junction, which would be known as New Queens Park and include a new home for Rangers as part of a sporting and leisure complex. In September the club held a consultation which involved a six-day public exhibition, meetings with local groups, 50,000 newsletters being distributed and a project website being set up.Rangers say there were almost 3,000 responses and that 2,524 (89%) of people agree with their vision for Old Oak, while only 302 (11%) said they disagreed.QPR also report that 2,484 (88%) supported Old Oak as the location for a new stadium and 332 (12%) said they disagree with the idea.QPR have said they hope to move to a new stadium in 2018“We want to thank everyone who responded to our consultation and shared their thoughts with us,” said Fernandes.“This is only the first stage of consultation and we will continue to work with the community as we develop our plans in more detail.“QPR have been in the area for over 100 years and have a loyal fan base.“We need to move on from Loftus Road if we are to sustain a top-flight football club and Old Oak Common is the only realistic place for us to move – close to our fans and our roots, with great transport links, and the opportunity to be at the heart of the most exciting new development in west London for years.“Old Oak is the biggest regeneration since the Olympics and we have a responsibility to future generations to get it right.“We need a comprehensive planned approach with a stadium as its beating heart, led by a football club with a stronger interest in the local community than any other kind of business.““The choice at Old Oak is between a stadium-led regeneration, generating activity, passion and publicity in a new district with a beating heat, or a dormitory town of buy-to-let flats, driven by housing developers leaving little for the local community.”QPR say they will now be working with the three relevant London boroughs – Hammersmith & Fulham, Ealing and Brent – as well as the Greater London Authority and local groups to ensure the community will benefit from the club’s proposals.Fernandes added: “It is important we don’t let this opportunity go to waste.“Local people have told us that they want QPR to stay in Hammersmith & Fulham. We hope the local boroughs and GLA will support us.“Let’s work together to deliver a thriving new city quarter that keeps QPR in west London and delivers real community benefits to the wider area.”See also:QPR owners stay committed because their eyes are on the prizeQPR confirm Old Oak regeneration projectThe Old Oak project that would totally transform the face of QPRChief executive Beard sets out QPR’s vision for Old OakOld Oak plan ‘speculative & presumptuous’The battle for Old Oak will be a huge opportunity for QPR fansQPR step up their pursuit of Old Oak site’More than 80%’ back QPR’s Old Oak plansOld Oak regeneration ‘requires everyone to work together’ say QPRWhat’s going on at QPR? It was the interim administration under former Governor, Damian Ric Todd that dismantled TC Invest and established a controversial collection agency to retrieve outstanding funds. Now, under Minister Misick, there is a new agency which will also share promotional responsibility with the TCI Tourist Board. Invest Turks and Caicos is headed by Chief Executive, John Rutherford and is located in Butterfield Square, down town Providenciales.

He called on Perry Christie and the PLP to ‘stop trying to corrupt our voting process’. Minnis vowed to his team, that the FNM will be vigilant not to allow Christie to steal this election from them. Originally published July 31. Update, Aug. 7: Adds clarification on Samsung tablet shipments for Q1 2019. 69 Photos 2:53 Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 could be the fanciest Android tablet The Tab S6 targets mobile workers who also game. Sarah Tew/CNET The Galaxy Tab S6 is Samsung’s Android-based answer to the iPad Pro and Surface Pro (and the discontinued — but not discounted — Pixel Slate). As a premium tablet, the S6 has all the stuff you’d expect: A powerful new processor, a great 10.5-inch Super AMOLED display and quad speakers as well as a new pen and keyboard cover. But it’s all the little extras Samsung packs in that make it more than just another Android tablet. The tablet market in general is in decline but Samsung’s tablet shipments — Android and Windows — remain strong, coming in just behind Apple’s iPad shipments for Q1 2019, according to analyst group IDC. At least part of the slide is attributed to a lack of innovative features within the category, which is something the Tab S6 attempts to attack. The included updated S Pen stylus, for example, can be used as a wireless shutter release for capturing photos and video with the tablet’s dual rear cameras — a first for a Samsung tablet. The pen magnetically snaps strongly to the rear of the tablet for storage and to wirelessly charge it. Samsung says a 10-minute charge will get you through a day of use. The tablet cover also acts like a pen case. Sarah Tew/CNET A Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor gives the Tab S6 more than an 80% CPU boost and more than a 60% graphics boost over the Tab S4. The increased performance is better for day-to-day stuff, but you’ll also see the benefits when using DeX, Samsung’s desktop interface for Android, which makes it feel more like a PC.DeX goes hand in hand with the Tab S6’s new Book Cover Keyboard. A huge improvement over the S4’s keyboard cover, the new version adds a touchpad (DeX has mouse support), a row of function keys and a quick-launch button for DeX. It also has a free-angle kickstand so it can be used in more than one position. Along with working more comfortably, you can work longer. Samsung claims up to 15 hours of battery life and it’ll quick-charge through its USB-C port. The Book Cover’s kickstand lets you work at more than one angle. Sarah Tew/CNET Gaming on the Tab S6 with the Snapdragon 855 is also improved from the S4. A Game Booster with AI capabilities lets you optimize for smoother performance or better image quality on 16:10 2,560×1,600-pixel resolution display. Samsung also has an exclusive partnership with game chat platform Discord so you can live chat through the tablet’s Game Launcher app. There are a handful of other things, too, like the quad speakers tuned by AKG and Dolby Atmos and an on-screen fingerprint scanner for quick sign ins. Plus you can wake the table with two taps on the screen. About the only thing missing is a headphone jack. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 comes in gray, blue and blush. It’ll be available for preorder online at Samsung.com on Aug. 23 and available in stores and online on Sept. 6. The base Wi-Fi-only model has 128GB of storage (microSD expansion available) and 6GB of RAM for $650 or, for $730, you can get 8GB of memory and 256GB of storage. The S Pen is included with both, but not the keyboard cover, which costs $180. An LTE version is expected later this year. 0 Tags Share your voice Now playing: Watch this: Post a comment Computers Tablets Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Samsung

Map of Laos locating a dam collapse. Photo: AFPHundreds of people are missing and an unknown number believed dead after the collapse of a hydropower dam under construction in southeast Laos, state media reported Tuesday.Communist Laos is traversed by a vast network of rivers and there are several dams being built or are planned in the impoverished and landlocked country, which exports most of its hydropower energy to neighbouring countries like Thailand.Laos News Agency said the accident happened at a hydropower dam in southeastern Attapeu province’s Sanamxay district late Monday, releasing five billion cubic metres of water-more than two million Olympic swimming pools. The report added that the there were “several human lives claimed, and several hundreds of people missing”.Several houses in the southern part of the district were also swept away, the report said, and officials in the province put out a call for relief aid for flood victims. The $1.2 billion dam is part of a project by Vientiane-based Xe Pian Xe Namnoy Power Company, or PNPC, a joint venture formed in 2012.Among the companies involved in the project according to the Laos News Agency are Thailand’s Ratchaburi Electricity Generating Holding, South Korea’s Korea Western Power and the state-run Lao Holding State Enterprise. The 410 megawatt capacity dam was supposed to start commercial operations by 2019, according to the venture’s website. The project consists of a series of dams over the Houay Makchanh, the Xe-Namnoy and the Xe-Pian rivers in neighbouring Champasack Province. It planned to export 90 percent of its electricity to energy hungry Thailand and the remaining amount was to be offered up on the local grid.Under the terms of construction, PNPC said it would operate and manage the power project for 27-years after commercial operations began. When contacted by phone in Laos’ capital Vientiane an official told AFP: “We do not have any official reports about it yet. We are gathering information.”Dam projects, mainly providing power to neighbouring countries, have long been controversial as they often displace large numbers of local people. The hydroelectric project at Xayaburi, led by Thai group CH Karnchang, with a 1,285 megawatt dam-which will cost $3.5 billion according to state media-is at the heart of Laos’ plan to become “the battery of Southeast Asia”.But it has sharply divided several Mekong nations who worry it will disrupt vital ecosystems and their own river systems.Six Vietnamese workers were killed when a gas cylinder exploded at the construction site of a hydropower plant in central Laos in July last year.
