Northwestern Medical Center launches electronic medical record system

first_img— end– Northwestern Medical Center, Inc,Northwestern Medical Center (NMC) successfully went live with its new fully integrated electronic medical record and enterprise-wide computer system on October 1, 2010 in conjunction with the start of the hospital’s new fiscal year.According to Kelly Barland, NMC’s Chief Information Officer, the Meditech implementation has been on an aggressive nine month implementation schedule. The project earned final approval by the State of Vermont in December of 2009. During the first few weeks of live use, people seeking care at NMC may notice that registration may take a few extra minutes as staff become accustomed to the new system. In clinical areas, nurses, technologists, and other staff will be using more computerized devices to support patient care. For instance, if you are an inpatient, you will see nurses using tablet computers on rolling carts in your room to complete documentation on your care. Also, clinical staff will use handheld devices to scan bar-coded bracelets to help confirm your identity.‘The new electronic medical record allows nurses and doctors to have all of the patient’s information at their fingertips,’ says Sandy Robinson, Chief Nursing Officer/Director of Clinical Services. ‘Allergies, past medical history and other important details are readily accessible at any time, and in all locations where the patient may be receiving care. There will be no more hunting for a patient’s chart, because everyone can access the patient’s record electronically from any location. Our ‘closed loop medication system’ assists nurses with electronic prompts to be sure that the right medication in the right dosage is being given to the right patient at the right time, by the right route. This is a very important safety feature that assists nurses when patients have many different medications for multiple medical conditions.’NMC will begin Phase II of implementation, which will implement Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE) in 2011. CPOE will allow physicians to enter orders and document care directly into the EMR. Phase III will include the build and implementation of the Emergency Department system into the Meditech product in 2012.Source: NMC. 11.2.2010last_img read more

Power + Communications + Sensors + Intelligence = A Connected Device

first_img 8SHARESShareShareSharePrintMailGooglePinterestDiggRedditStumbleuponDeliciousBufferTumblr “Start with a device, such as a Brita filtered water pitcher, provide a power source (such as a battery), add the ability to communicate (such as Wi-Fi or Bluetooth), install a sensor (in this case, the ability for the water pitcher to measure how much water has been poured since the last time the filter was replaced), and add intelligence (in the form of a microprocessor) and you have the very definition of a connected device.” That was the explanation that Tom Davis, SVP Finance and Technology at CSCU, gave to start off his keynote session at CSUC’s recently held 2017 Annual Conference that focused on the future of payments. The Brita Infinity water pitcher is just one example of a connected device. The number of connected devices is expected to pass 50 billion by the year 2020, according to Davis.Davis told the audience, made up of more than 350 plus credit union leaders that other changes they will be seeing that impact their business are APIs, Big Data, and Artificial Intelligence. “APIs are simply a way for software systems to communicate with other software systems,” Davis explained. “The linkage to the topic of payments is that we will see more financial institutions allowing trusted third party innovators access to member account information for services such as personal financial management (PFM) and single view account aggregation, such as mint.com.”Regarding the amount of data that is being generated, accumulated, and stored in the cloud, Davis pointed out that 300 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube each minute, Google processes 2.4 million queries per minute. Over 1 trillion photos are taken each year, mostly on smartphones. Every industry has its big data. “For a typical Fortune 1000 company, just a 10% increase in data accessibility will result in more than $65 million additional net income according to Forbes,” Davis said. continue reading »last_img read more

What Does An Olympia Kitchen Designer’s Kitchen Look Like?

first_imgFacebook7Tweet0Pin0 Having removed the wall, Trivonna placed the refrigerator in what was the family room, making room for a gas range. She moved the wall ovens only slightly, thus saving the cost of moving the electrical and making room for a pantry.I love my new kitchen – but not as much as I love my kitchen designing wife – Trivonna!!Cabinets by Trivonna444 Lacey Boulevard SE, Suite GLacey, WA 98503360.539.5057 Our refrigerator would not fit in the hole provided. I had to chop of the cabinet above, and take about an inch off the cabinet to the left. When the dishwasher was open, one couldn’t open the freezer door without hitting it.The cook top was on the end of the Island near the refrigerator (couldn’t open it while someone was standing at the cook top).It was hard on Trivonna to come home to that kitchen for over five years!center_img Submitted by Cabinets by TrivonnaOriginal kitchen during first stages of remodelingFor Cabinets by Trivonna, the answer to that question begs another question: When?We bought a 70’s vintage fixer-upper in 2005. Before we could remodel the kitchen, we decided to open our business – thus delaying our dream kitchen. The original kitchen was so bad that I didn’t take any “before” pictures until after we had begun to tear out the wall separating our kitchen and family room.last_img read more
