Mandate roundup: AP1, MSCI, IPE Quest

first_imgSweden’s first national pensions buffer fund AP1 has selected MSCI to provide risk-analysis services after a public tender process.MSCI said the SEK296bn (€31.8bn) pension fund had chosen it to provide the full range of risk analytics, including stress testing, statistical analysis, data visualisation and risk reporting.Kaj Martensen, COO at AP1, said: “We are delighted to be working with MSCI and believe their powerful, multi-asset-class risk platform supports AP1 by providing an integrated view of risk throughout decision layers.”MSCI said it first worked for AP1 in 2011 when the company was chosen to provide ESG ratings for equities and fixed income for the fund. In other news, a Scandinavian pension fund is using IPE Quest to search for managers to take on two high-yield bond mandates – one for US bonds and the other for European bonds. In search QN-2167, the unnamed pension fund is looking for one manager of US high yield, for a mandate expected to be around $300m (€273m). According to the search, the successful manager should be capable of achieving performance higher than the BofA Merrill Lynch US High Yield Master II Constrained Index, independent of the market and investment style. The pension fund said the selected manager or managers must be willing to set up a segregated account. The mandate is to include US high-yield products that are actively managed. All types of investment approach and style will be accepted. The pension fund said the expected excess return target was 1-2% a year, with a “suitable” tracking error. It said it preferred products with a track record of at least three years.Via a second search, QN-2168, the pension fund is searching for a manager to run a mandate of approximately €150m in European high yield. The selected manager should be able to outperform the BofA Merrill Lynch European Currency High Yield Constrained Index, independent of the market and investment style.Similarly to the US mandate, the selected manager or managers must be willing to set up a segregated account, which should include actively managed pan-European high-yield products but no leveraged loan products. The deadline for responses to both searches is 23 March. The IPE news team is unable to answer any further questions about IPE Quest tender notices to protect the interests of clients conducting the search. first_imgImage Courtesy: Hansa Heavy LiftGerman shipping company Hansa Heavy Lift has transported 13 modules measuring over 147,124 cbm from China to Australia, to help with the redevelopment of the Nyrstar Smelter in Port Pirie. The cargo was loaded on four separate voyages at the Yanda Module Yard in Jiangsu, China, with the largest piece weighing 690 metric tonnes, and measuring 28 metres in length, 17 metres in width, and 26.7 metres in height.“This was a particularly challenging project which required the use of three of our vessels on four separate trips operating at their full capacity, including HHL New York, HHL Lagos, and HHL Valparaiso,” Henry Woo, Head of AsiaPacific (APAC), Hansa Heavy Lift, said.“Lifting and rigging were particularly challenging for this project due to the height of the modules combined with the offset centre of gravity, with up to five lifting beams required for a single lift,” Woo added. The decks of each vessel were extended to the aft and in some cases even to the starboard side to accommodate up to five modules per trip. The over dimensional cargo required the installation of additional bow radars and the extra crew to double up bridge watches.Modules had to be placed onto the self-propelled modular transporter with minimum clearance in between each vessel’s hull and the fixed structures on the wharf to overcome the limited space on the jetty in Port Pirie.Image Courtesy: Hansa Heavy Lift“We are proud to have completed the project with a smooth execution at every stage, resulting in a safe and on-time delivery of all modules,” Jens Grever, Head of Cargo Management, Asia, Hansa Heavy Lift, said. The Port Pirie Redevelopment Project will convert the smelting facility operated by Nyrstar to a multi metals processing and recovery facility.last_img read more

USC gets double dose of Cougars away from home

first_imgThe No. 7 USC men’s volleyball team will travel to Utah this spring break, as it visits No. 4 Brigham Young University for back-to-back games March 19 and 20.The Trojans (10-7, 8-6) have the same record as the Cougars. Both are tied for fifth with Hawai’i in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, but they are only two games behind conference leader Stanford. This will be the second set of back-to-back games against the same opponent for USC. The Trojans split a pair against No. 8 Hawai’i at the Galen Center earlier this week. After enduring a stretch from late January to early March when they lost five out of seven games, the Trojans have won two of the last three and look to be regaining the form they had when they were the No. 1 team in the country earlier this season. The Trojans have improved their passing and blocking since that losing streak but are still struggling in the first set of each match. The team has lost nine out of its last 10 first sets and recognizes that it needs to come out with more energy to avoid putting itself in that quick 1-0 hole.“This is our trend. We need to figure that out because it’s a problem. But once we figure it out we should do OK,” junior setter Riley McKibbin said after the Hawai’i game Tuesday. The break will give the Trojans some much needed time to string multiple practices together. They were limited in fall practices because of three players who participated in the U.S. Junior National team and the world championships in late August, and two other players were injured.Combined with the fact that many of the Trojans’ games earlier in the season were on Wednesdays and Fridays, USC did not have a lot of time to work on areas that need improvement.BYU will play two games in the Long Beach State Active Ankle Tournament against No. 9 Penn State and St. Francis before heading home to face the Trojans.Coming into the Long Beach tournament, the Cougars have won three of their last six games and are the top blocking team in the MPSF, averaging 3.27 per game. That is .33 more blocks per game than the second-place team.last_img read more
