PREMIERE: Vinegar Mother Shares Delightfully Spacey Debut Record, ‘PHASES’

first_imgIn a sonically inspiring middle group where space rock and jazz fusion meet, you’ll find Vinegar Mother, the high-octane quintet hailing from Brooklyn, NY. Coming together in 2015, the lineup is comprised of Julia Zivic (vocals/lyrics), Itamar Gov-Ari (keyboard), Jason Zivic (drums), Mike Roninson (bass), with Chris Mazuera joining as lead guitarist late last year. Today, Live For Live Music is pleased to share their debut record, PHASES, ahead of its official release tomorrow. Listen below:PHASES by Vinegar MotherFor PHASES, the band wanted to keep true to a collaborative spirit and they revel in their ability to meld genres seamlessly. Take the opening track, “Moon Tomb,” for example; from the get-go, Vinegar Mother pulls the listener in with a groovy, R&B atmosphere, but by the 3rd track, “NEXUS,” they’ve gone and added spacey electronic elements. “Palm Sweat,” the album’s 5th track is a breezy first-date anthem for the modern millennial, as Zivic’s sultry vocals croon “Palm sweat / I’m in debt / I’m in a dilemma I just do not get.” “Shame” is reminiscent of Hiatus Kaiyote with elements of prog-rock elevating the band’s individual style.Throughout the record, Zivic’s powerhouse vocals swirl above the virtuoso talents of the band. The themes and lyrics on PHASES are definitely clever and encapsulates the human experience in modern times.Zivic shares: “In PHASES, Vinegar Mother believes it has a perfect blend of impressive instrumentation and honest emotion. The band would like all to journey through the album in song order to hear the interesting transitions and thoughtful flow of PHASES. In that way, Vinegar Mother hopes each composition reaches out to the listener and invites them inside the world of the leading lady. The lyrics, the musicality, and the ever-changing mood will hopefully make you go through ‘phases’ of your own.”For more information on Vinegar Mother, and for a list of upcoming tour dates, head to the band’s website.last_img read more

Reports: Kawhi Leonard wants out of San Antonio with Lakers his top destination

first_imgThe San Antonio Express-News and ESPN.com were the first to report the 26-year-old Leonard’s desire to leave the Spurs, with each citing unnamed sources. Leonard’s relationship with the Spurs soured last season over the treatment of a quadriceps injury that limited him to nine games.Leonard has asked San Antonio to trade him, the Express-News reported. Leonard graduated from King High School in Riverside and had two standout seasons at San Diego State before the Spurs drafted him 15th overall in the 2011 draft. It’s unclear who the Lakers would send the Spurs in order to acquire Leonard, who is eligible for a five-year, $219-million contract extension from San Antonio. The Boston Celtics and Philadelphia 76ers also could be in the mix in a trade for Leonard, who has averaged 16.3 points and 6.2 rebounds during his NBA career. The Lakers have a number of talented young players who could be attractive in a trade for Leonard, including Lonzo Ball, Josh Hart, Brandon Ingram, Kyle Kuzma and Julius Randle. The deal might make more sense for the rebuilding Lakers than for the Spurs, however.San Antonio has been a fierce rival of the Lakers during Coach Gregg Popovich’s tenure with the Spurs. Popovich and Phil Jackson disliked each other after so many tense playoff battles, and it’s not clear the bitterness between the franchises has subsided since Jackson’s retirement from coaching in 2011. Leonard is said to be ready to sever ties with the Spurs, with Los Angeles as his preferred destination and the Lakers as his top team. The Lakers’ interest is believed to be mutual. The Clippers also could have interest in Leonard.center_img Plus, there are questions about the Spurs’ willingness to help create a Lakers superteam that could challenge the Golden State Warriors for NBA supremacy. After all, the Lakers are among the leading suitors for LeBron James and perhaps Paul George, another Southern Californian who would like to return.Additionally, it’s possible Leonard and the Spurs could settle their differences before the NBA draft Thursday and he could sign an extension in the coming weeks. Leonard and Popovich were scheduled to talk in the next few days, according to the Express-News report. The Spurs are the only team that can offer Leonard the five-year, $219-million deal.Meanwhile in Playa Vista, a few miles north of the Lakers’ training facility in El Segundo, the Clippers have two first-round draft picks, Nos. 12 and 13, and several intriguing players on their roster, which could be attractive should the Spurs grant Leonard’s trade demand. The Clippers are poised to begin their own rebuilding effort after missing the playoffs for the first time in seven seasons. They granted Chris Paul’s wish to be traded to the Houston Rockets last spring and dealt Blake Griffin to the Detroit Pistons in the summer, clearing the way for a remodel.Doc Rivers agreed to a contract extension last month and it’s believed he returned to coach the team because management is determined to return the franchise to playoff form without tearing apart the roster and starting from scratch. Acquiring Leonard would play a big part in that regard. For what it was worth, and that’s probably not a whole lot, one oddsmaker on Friday put the chances of Leonard joining the Lakers next season at 5/7. The Boston Celtics were next at 15/4, followed by the Spurs and 76ers at 5/1 and the Clippers and Cleveland Cavaliers at 10/1.Sign up for Home Turf and get 3 exclusive stories every SoCal sports fan must read, sent daily. What Does An Olympia Kitchen Designer’s Kitchen Look Like?
