Jon Fishman’s Lincolnville General Store Re-Opens With A Bang In His Maine Hometown [Video]

first_img[Cover photo via Lincolnville General Store Facebook] Last Friday night, October 27th, after a lengthy restoration and renovation process, the Lincolnville General Store was re-opened by of the small Maine town’s most well-known citizens: Phish drummer/town Board of Selectmen member Jon Fishman and his wife and town Board of Education member Briar Fishman. According to local Maine paper The Free Press, the long-awaited grand re-opening went off with a bang last weekend with a party featuring pizza fresh out of the stone oven, hot dogs and burgers, a crowd of about 600 people and, of course, live music. Local groups The Mallett Brothers and the Route 17 Ramblers provided the entertainment, with Fishman joining both groups as a special guest.Phish Drummer Jon Fishman Elected For Local Political Office In Maine HometownThe store, which was built in the mid-19th century, has been closed for almost a decade. According to a 2016 report in Penobscot Bay Pilot, Fishman and his wife, Briar, purchased the mid-19th century Lincolnville General Store in 2011, but wound up selling it to another family to focus on the upkeep of their making their local farm. After the buyers made initial renovations to the store, the Fishman family put in an offer and wound up buying back the property and continuing the upgrading process. The store’s focus is on organic and store-made products, including prepared foods and condiments. Since the Fishmans have five children, they can understand the importance of an all-in-one store, and the Lincolnville General Store aims to be just that. The property also features an outdoor porch area, WiFi, and a brick oven pizza stop for residents to come and chat. They’ll also work with local businesses to ensure that they aren’t stepping on anyone’s toes, and are planning to break into groceries and delivery services for the elderly and handicapped townspeople. “Most markets don’t just sell their own stuff,” Briar told the Penobscot Bay Pilot back in 2016. “It takes the community to stock the shelves and we will be working with not only local farmers, but local bakers, local artisans and craftspeople.”Particularly with Phish toning down the scope of their famously extensive touring schedule this year, Fishman and his family have continued to make themselves an important part of the local Lincolnville community–and make Lincolnville just a little more special in the process.Congrats to Jon, Briar, and the town of Lincolnville on the new store! You can watch full footage of The Mallett Brothers Band’s performance at the opening of the Fishmans’ new Lincolnville General Store, featuring a sit-in from Jon Fishman himself, via the store’s Facebook page:Check out assorted videos and clips from the Lincolnville General Store Grand Re-Opening below via Instagram:last_img read more

Fans Make the Difference in Volleyball

first_img If the rules allow for the entry of a seventh player on the court, the crowd would be it, if coach Flávio Marinho of the of Brazilian men’s volleyball team had anything to say about it. Volleyball matches at these Military World Games have attracted a lively and enthralled crowd at the Maracanãzinho Gym. During two intense hours of match play on July 18, the 1,600 spectators on hand watched Brazil edge out Qatar in a hard fought win for the hosts. The Brazilians won by 3 sets to 1, winning 25-27, 25-20, 25-14 and 35-33. “Both teams are to be congratulated for the show, and the fans for their part,” said Sgt Thiago Sens, who led all scorers with 19 points. While the Brazilian team kept on committing mistakes, the crowd kept the pressure on the Qatari team. In three decisive plays in the second and fourth sets, the Brazilian fans helped turn the score. In the fourth set, one of the Qatari players, Zied Benlouafer (18 points), gave his team a one point lead before going to serve. Just before serving, the Brazilian crowd got so loud, it caused Zied’s serve to go into the net. On the next play, Sergeant Douglas Lamb tied it up for Brazil with an unreturnable serve. When the host team was not on the court, the Brazilian fans threw their support behind another team. In the heated battle between the U.S. and Italy in women’s volleyball, the Italians got the crowd’s support, probably due to the large number of descendants of Italian immigrants in Brazil. For their part, the Americans had the enthusiastic support of male counterparts, who attended the match on Monday, July 18. The American team played a hard fought match that lasted until the fifth set. Italy won with partial scores of 25-18, 21-25, 25-11, 24-26 and 15- 8. By Dialogo July 19, 2011last_img read more

Construction of Anaklia Deep Sea Port to Kick Off in December

first_imgThe construction of Anaklia Deep Sea Port in the Black Sea Region is scheduled to start on December 20, 2017, the Anaklia Development Consortium (ADC) informed. “Anaklia Port is a project of an unprecedented scale for our country… We started the preparatory works last year and promised to start the construction process in just a year… And now, the more important stage of the project begins – the port construction,” Mamuka Khazaradze, Co-founder/Partner of ADC, said. The preparatory phase for the new port started in 2016. During this phase, ADC selected the US-based SSA Marine as the terminal operator for the port. The company will also be one of the port’s investors.Additionally, the general plan for the port was prepared and approved, according to ADC. The plan was approved by the Government of Georgia in October 2017.Moreover, Dutch marine engineering company Van Oord conducted pre-construction works including marine civil engineering, geotechnical, topographical, and other research. The environmental impact assessment document was also prepared. One year ago, Georgia and ADC signed an investment agreement for the construction and operation of the USD 2.5 billion Anaklia Deep Sea Port. Under the deal, ADC has the exclusive right to build, develop and operate the port.Expected to help establish a new maritime corridor from China to Europe, Anaklia Deep Sea Port will be constructed on about 400 hectares of land as the country’s government granted the ADC rights to use the land for a period of 52 years.Once all nine phases under the framework of the project are completed, the port would have the capacity to serve 100 million tons of freight turnover.World Maritime News Stafflast_img read more
